Flight connections between Italy and the USA

May 1st, 2020. The Italian Embassy in Washington continues to maintain close contacts with Alitalia to ensure direct connections between the United States and Italy in the coming days, despite the ban on entry for those who have been in the Schengen area in the last 14 days decided by the American Authorities starting from March 13th.

Please note that this prohibition does not apply to American citizens and their family members, foreigners with permanent residence and their family members who must follow the procedures set by the Department of Homeland Security upon arrival.

There are no limitations for Italians who want to leave the United States to return to Italy, where they will have to comply with the provisions adopted by the Italian authorities. For further information and to download the forms required to enter Italy and to move inside the Italian territory we recommend visting the following page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

For boarding Alitalia flights, masks are required. For more information on safety please refer to the following website: https://www.alitalia.com/en_en/fly-alitalia/news-and-activities/news/flying-during-covid-19.html

Alitalia plans to maintain 1 flight per day from New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO) until May 4, 2020. In the following days flights may be cancelled, delayed or suffer unforseen changes. It is essential that passengers remain in direct contact with the carrier to ascertain the status of their flight. Domestic flights are subject to change based on the contingent situation.

Alitalia recommends using the company’s website to purchase tickets (https://www.alitalia.com/it_it/fly-alitalia/voli-speciali/voli-speciali-usa.html#JFK-FCO-New_York-Roma).

The Italian Embassy in Washington underlines that flights to third countries with a connecting flight to Italy are also available.
