Instruction on the procedure of Citizenship by descent

Forms:  Form1, Form2, Form3, Form4, Multifunzionale

There is enormous interest in obtaining Italian citizenship and, with about 3 million people of Italian ancestry in the Consulate's jurisdiction, many applications are processed every year. However, this may also mean that your appointment for citizenship iure sanguinis may be given in about one year time. Citizenship by marriage, on the other hand, is on a faster track, and appointments are given within a much shorter time. This is because some documents have a limited validity (criminal records are valid only for a few months) and must be presented to the Consulate before they expire. In any event, it is particularly important that you read carefully the information on this website, so that your application can be processed faster after your appointment.

Once you have submitted all the proper documents we will verify and forward them to Italy for registration. When the process is completed we will send you/email you a letter stating that you may now apply for an Italian passport. The Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers no. 33 of January 17, 2014 establishes the maximum term of 730 days for completion of the assessment proceedings of the possession of Italian citizenship and the issue of the citizenship certificate.
