Who can Not apply for AIRE

  • Italian Citizens living abroad for less than 12 months;
  • Italian Citizens residing abroad for seasonal positions (both work and study);
  • National Government employees working abroad and their family members, who have been registered with the local authorities pursuant to Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, held namely in 1961 and 1963 and ratified by Law 9 August 1967, n.804 (2);
  • Military members (and their families) serving in countries that are part of the North Atlantic Treaty, as 19 June 1951 London Convention explicitly provides that military members serving in NATO bases do not acquire any right or eligibility for a permanent residence permit in that country.
