Translations
The Consulate does not provide document translation services. Self-produced translations are acceptable if they are complete, accurate, and typewritten. The Consulate provides a list of professional translators, or you can use other professional translation services found elsewhere.
Certificates of translation conformity
The Consulate provides certificates of translation conformity for the two official languages only, namely Italian and English. If translation compliance is required for Civil Status documents for purposes other than transcription, it is necessary to submit the original document with an affixed Apostille and accompanied by a translation.
The Apostille must be obtained from the Secretary of State and is necessary if you intend to use the document in a foreign country (Italy).
Attention: Do not remove the Apostille from the document to maintain its validity.
To obtain translation compliance, you must send the following by mail to the Notary Office of this Consulate:
- The document with an Apostille, if applicable, and its translation.
- The “Money Order” made payable to “Consolato Generale d’Italia, Filadelfia.”
- A self-addressed and stamped envelope (USPS Priority or Express, UPS, or other) with a tracking number.
The office only accepts payments in the form of USPS “Money Order.” The amount of the Money Order can be verified on the website by clicking on the “consular fee table” . The table is updated every three months. For this specific consular service, refer to articles 72A and 72C (attestazioni di conformità all’originale delle traduzioni). The indicated amount applies to each page of the original text.
